Model City

The city of Beitar Ilit is ranked at no. 1 in the socio-economic poverty scale. Despite this unfortunate fact, and to the great surprise of leading economists, the municipality has succeeded in maintaining financial stability and handling the budget in a responsible and sensible manner, resulting in a balanced budget at the end of the fiscal year.

The Beitar Municipality annual budget stands at approximately 112 million NIS. During the past three years, the budget has seen a rise of 35%, while the local population has increased by 10%. Despite the reduction in building fee revenue, the city is currently enjoying large scale developments in all areas.

Dozens of classrooms for schools and pre-schools are under construction and millions of shekels are invested in welfare, transportation infrastructure, additional educational centers, industry, Pais centers and a multipurpose grand hall. Furthermore, the municipality is investing profoundly in professional training and the increased development of additional sources of employment, external enhancement of the city, emergency services and road safety, culture, public open areas and all other municipal services.

The Beitar Ilit municipality employs 105 workers, of whom 87 are local residents and 34 have academic degrees.
This factor, which implies that the municipality is employing a limited number of personnel, is due to the fact that most of the services geared for the local residents are privatized, such as tax collection, garbage collection, street maintenance, security, gardening and landscaping, as well as all schools and daycare centers.
